Tallahassee City Commissioner Debbie Lightsey has endorsed Nancy Miller for her Seat 3 on the City Commission.
Lightsey announced earlier this year she would not run for re-election to the seat after serving more than two decades.
Lightsey, in a news release, said Miller is the only candidate who can bring balance and diversity to the commission.
“I’ve known and worked with Nancy for many years,” Lightsey said, “and she is smart, hardworking and has a long record of positive involvement. When we have an exceptionally well-qualified woman running, this community should not settle for an all-male City Commission.”
Lightsey won five, four-year terms on the City Commission starting in 1989.
Miller, an urban-planning consultant and planning commissioner who was one of the founders of the Blueprint 2000 plan, said she’s proud to have Lightsey’s endorsement.
“As I’ve walked in neighborhoods throughout Tallahassee during this campaign, I’ve learned that people want a commissioner who will balance our need for economic growth with protecting our neighborhoods and our natural resources. That’s my vision for Tallahassee.”
Stephen Hogge and William “Bill” Rollins are also candidates for Seat 3. Voters citywide can vote in the City Commission races.
