Protecting Our Water

Most people know me for my efforts over the years to make sure that our water is clean and safe, and now we have the best tasting water in the state. Water is our gold, and I promise to continue fighting to keep that water clean and keep it here – for our people, not for export to others elsewhere who have exhausted their own supplies.

Our community is blessed with an abundance of water of the highest quality, a resource that sets our community apart. This clean, sweet-tasting water provides a competitive advantage at a time when so many communities find their water in short supply. Water is essential to our physical and economic health and to our continued prosperity in the years to come, as other communities begin to fight with one another over scarce resources.

In 2006, I received the Watershed Champion Award from the Leon County and Tallahassee City Commissions. I have made my name in the community doing all that I can to publicize the issue of water pollution.  I understand the politics and regulation of water and can devise policies that protect our lakes, springs and groundwaters from pollution while providing developers the flexibility to shift projects to less environmentally-sensitive places.

In recent years, efforts have begun to pipe our water away – but they were put off, at least for now.   I will go across the street to the State Legislature, to make sure that our people, and not outsiders, will have the first say in how our water is used and to make sure that we are never left high and dry.
